CESNUR, the Center for Studies on New Religions, is an independent, international network of scholars working in the field of new religious movements established in 1988.

CESNUR holds an annual conference which is largest world gathering of scholars active in studying new religions. Each conference usually features between 50 and 80 papers.

This year’s conference was held April 16-20, 2008 at the London School of Economics, this year’s theme was “Twenty Years and More: Research into Minority Religions, New Religious Movements and ‘the New Spirituality’”; the full programme can be seen online here.

A number of papers presented have been made available on the website, including a paper by Dr. Dave Evans, author of Aleister Crowley and the 20th Century Synthesis of Magick1, and The History of British Magick After Crowley2, titled “Crowleyan Echoes: Baraka and Fantasy” and one by John L. Crow, formerly of Thelema Coast to Coast and currently of Thelema.nu, titled “The Bhikkhu and the Magus: Exploring Allan Bennett’s Influence on Aleister Crowley” and a host of others which can be downloaded here.

By all the reports I’ve read the conference was a highly interesting and quite a success. Take a look at what’s been made available so far, and check back as I understand more are being uploaded.
