New interview with John L. Crow

By Psyche | September 6, 2010 | Print This Post | E-mail This Post | 5 Comments

My interview with John L. Crow, host of the popular occult podcast Thelema Coast to Coast, is now live on our sister site SpiralNature.com.

John discusses whether or not Thelema Coast to Coast has a future, what he’s been working on since it ended, and why studying western esotericism in university is nothing like attending Hogwarts.

Check it out, and let me know what you think.

Great interview – cheers for producing, transcribing and sharing it. One point on which I was on total agreement was when he said he simply didn’t have time for that sort of thing these days. I’m gaining a very intimate awareness of the challenges of graduate work. In most instances it’s just shy of overwhelming.

      93,

One thing that magick should teach you is time management. Its quite easy to do grad work and do something like a podcast, in my opinion.

Im not sure why I should care about the interview unless I cared about John Crow as a person, but since he stopped producing anything related to Thelema a while ago, I have a hard time caring… though its perfectly obvious you two are friends it sounded more like a transcription of a conversation between you two rather than anything significant.

Magick also teaches one to identify obstacles and focus on pursuit of one’s True Will. If John felt that the podcast was distracting him from his purpose, it certainly makes sense to drop it and move on.

I met John for the first time a few weeks ago when he was in town presenting a paper for a conference at the University of Toronto. I do care what he’s been up to since the podcast, and it’s far from true that he’s stopped producing material.

While he was in Amsterdam he maintained a blog, The Treasurehouse of Pearls, which no longer seems to be active, and in the CV I linked to at the bottom of the interview you can find several papers and presentations which would be of interest to any student of Thelema – particularly those relating to Allan Bennett, one of Crowley’s early mentors.

The publications he’s editing for the Luxor Media Group may not specifically deal with Thelema, but neither this blog nor SpiralNature.com are solely dedicated to Thelema. I don’t know much about the Hermetic Brotherhood of Luxor, so I’ll be looking forward to the six volume Cosmic Tradition when it comes out.

Since John’s podcast had such influence, I thought people might be interested in hearing about what he’s getting up to these days, particularly in regards to his scholarly works on the occult.

I’m sorry you didn’t find it significant. Were there any topics you think we should have covered which were omitted?
