Teenagers and the occult: Survey request

By Psyche | July 2, 2009

A friend of mine, Beth Wingarner, author of Sacred Sonoma: Sacred Sites and Alignments in Sonoma County, California1 is working on a new book about how young people, and teenagers in particular, come to the occult and why parents shouldn’t freak out about it.

Details below:

Seeking personal stories for book

I am gathering stories for a book that will help parents understand why their teens are interested in certain media, mainly heavy metal music, video games (especially violent video games), and/or alternative spiritual paths. Ultimately, I’m hoping to bridge the communication gap so that anxious parents can lay their fears to rest — rather than assuming their kids are on a path to violence or self-destruction.

So, I’m looking for input from folks who developed an interest in any of these things as teens, and am hoping you’ll respond to the following survey(s) to provide stories from your life. Information you provide may be used in the book, but will be used anonymously unless you request otherwise.

I’m looking for folks who first discovered paganism in their teen years. I  hope you’ll answer that survey specifically, but if you were or are interested in the others, please feel free to answer all three.

Thanks so much, in advance, for sharing your stories.

Thanks!

Beth

Beth’s a solid person with a magickal background, and I respect her work. Her approach will not be Wickeresque. So, if you get the chance, please help Beth out by filling in any applicable surveys. Thanks!

I’m busy building a roleplay website. By the email you probably guessed we’re vampire roleplayers. I’m looking for sites to inform parents about the dangerous occult sects and the ones that are actually not that harmfull. I believe everyone has a right to their beliefs but don’t want to debate it on the site once its up so would like to direct the parents to informative sites rather than leave them thinking their children have become children of the night if you understand rofl.
