Plutonica.net MobileTwo weeks ago ahrfoundation.org and its readers received a late birthday gift, today it receives an early Giftmas present.

I recently received a Blackberry Torch (I love it!), and trying to view this site on it was a bit of a pain. Can’t do with that.

So, I tested a bunch of mobile plugins to see which worked the best, and WordPress Mobile Pack won, hands down.

I chose the simple grey theme as it seemed the most straightforward (pictured left). I may play around with others, but I like the stripped down look of this one.

It lists the most recent posts, comments, and pages, but nothing else at the moment.

If you’re so inclined, take a look and let me know what you think.

In other news: I’m working on a couple of reviews for our sister site, SpiralNature.com, and a massive links list for this week’s Saturday Signal. Lots of round ups planned, and a gifts guide for the occultniks on your list.

Good stuff.

Plutonica.net Design 4.0A redesign for ahrfoundation.org was planned for its third birthday, which passed, unobserved, on October 31st. So we can consider this a belated birthday present.

This is the fourth design for the website. The colours and central image have remained largely unchanged, but I’ve worked to streamline it’s look, and make it easier to find certain information.

The design actually went into effect on the weekend, as members of our Facebook group were aware. (Thanks for your help and patience, guys!) This past weekend has been spent tweaking and perfecting the design you now see, though if you stopped by to read the latest Saturday Signal or the post about Spare, you may have seen it in its early stages.

(BTW, if you’re viewing this post in a feed reader, you may want to head over to the website to take a look. The image above can’t really do it justice.)

So, what’s changed? Continue reading »

Site updates and maintenance

Plutonica.netI’ve been making gradual updates to blog functionality and thought I ought to let you know what changes have been implemented, and ask your thoughts on whether this improves things, or if you have other suggestions.

WordPress Upgrade

ahrfoundation.org runs on WordPress, and on June 17th we upgraded to WordPress 3.0 “Thelonious” along with a significant portion of the blogging world.

Only a few of you may notice any differences, those who log in to comment (which is not a requirement for this site), and those who log in for guest posts. On the front end everything looks pretty much the same, and behind the scenes the changes are minimal, though there are over 1200 bug fixes and other enhancements that took place between this and the last WordPress release.

Indeed, with the insane amount of new customization options now available a new theme upgrade may be in order in the coming months.

Geeze, it doesn’t seem like that long since our last redesign, but I guess it was almost a year ago.

New Features

Liking comments featureLiking comments

This feature was actually implemented a few months ago after a particular discussion took place where I felt that rather than repeating myself or others in the thread, it would be helpful if readers and commentators could “like” a particular response.

So, now you can.

There is no “dislike” button because I feel, as a rule, you guys are pretty civil about how you interact with each other and there’s simply no need for it. If you dislike what someone’s saying, a reasoned response is almost always more helpful than noting a negative sentiment. Continue reading »
