You could probably substitute simple caramel or some sort of peanut-brittle like apparatus. That should easily work for the ‘glue’.

If/when I make these next year I will definitely take pics for the blog. Our Yule Feast was already on Saturday, I’m disappointed I didn’t see this recipe before.
